L. Gene Renken - July 29, 2004

RUTLAND -- L. Gene Renken, 73, of rural Rutland died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday (July 29, 2004) at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Toluca, with the Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Rutland Cemetery, Rutland. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, Toluca, and for one hour before the service Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. Renken was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Dana, the son of Walter and Eva McKinney Renken. He married Marjorie Cinnamon on Jan. 29, 1956, in Rutland. She died July 11, 1988.

Surviving are two sons, Alan Renken and Christopher Renken, both of Rutland; one daughter, Bonnie (Rich) Burmood of Benson; two brothers, Edward (Sheila) Renken of Minonk and Walter "Butch" (Margaret) Renken of Whittier, Calif.; one sister, Jessica Postulka of Hanceville, Ala.; and three granddaughters, Samantha, Jessica and Lydia Burmood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Louis Renken; and one sister, Shirley Renken.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Toluca.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer in the Rutland area.

His family loved him greatly, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
